New Board Members

Every spring, a Nominating Committee is formed to seek nominations to present to the membership at the Annual Meeting. The Board of Directors is currently one member short and there are no Reserve Board Members. The Board meets six times a year on Thursday evenings at the Quabbin Visitors Center. If you are interested in serving on the Board of Directors,

SECURITY STATUS AND ACCESS TO QUABBIN RESERVATION

In conjunction with the Homeland Security alert level which was raised to Code Orange on February 7th, the MDC has restricted all public access to the Winsor Dam and Goodnough Dike. This area is defined by the area bounded by; 1) the face of the dam east to the spillway channel, south along the channel to the Y Pool, then arcing back to the gate by the dam and encompassing the area around the power station, and; 2) From the turnoff to the Goodnough Dike from the Administration Road, northeast to the reservoir, the shoreline east to Gate 50, then the road below the Dike back to the starting point. These areas are classified as higher security zones because of their obvious importance.
A protocol has been established for restricting public access at different security levels with changes in security levels triggering different access limitations. For instance the dam and dike would be open to pedestrian access at Code Yellow, closed to all public access at Code Orange, and the entire reservation would likely be shut down to all public access at Code Red. In order to provide updated information, the Visitor Center has expanded its phone system with one option being devoted exclusively to access information.
